In histology, bodies are broadly classified into the following categories: 1. Naturally occurring body - a mass of matter found anatomically or physiologically in organs and tissues 2. Foreign body - a mass or entity that has been introduced from an external source. In other words, any mass found in an organ or tissue in which it does not normally belong

Lichen planus may occur on mucosal surfaces such as the oral mucosa or genitalia. Results: There were 34 females (68%) and 16 males. The mean age at diagnosis was 47.8 years for females and 61.7 years for males. Histological examination revealed an atrophic (62%), flattened (84%) epidermis with hyperkeratosis (92%) and occasional follicular plugging (34%). Poikiloderma of Civatte is characterised by confluent reddish-brown patches with atrophy that symmetrically involve sun-exposed areas such as the sides of the neck and lateral aspect of the cheeks.

Poikiloderma of Civatte is a benign, common and chronic condition, which belongs to the group of melanodermas (pigmented skin disorders). The term 'poikiloderma' refers to a skin change with atrophy where hypopigmentation / hyperpigmentation changes and dilation of the fine blood vessels (telangiectasia) can be seen in the affected skin.

‘ Hyaline bodies’ are equivalent but occur in connective tissue. The salient histological findings include basal cell vacuolization, apoptotic keratinocytes (colloid or Civatte bodies), and obscuring of the dermo-epidermal junction by inflammatory cells. Secondary changes of the epidermis and papillary dermis along with type, distribution and density of inflammatory cells are used for the differential diagnoses of the various diseases that exhibit interface changes. Focal hypergranulosis and focal parakeratosis is present.

Civatte bodies are generated from denucleation of K17+ epithelial cells during the process of cell death via dyskeratosis, which is possibly related to blood capillary collapse.

These structures are universally known as Civatte bodies.

Foremost, early LS and lichen planus can show significant overlap, well described by Fung and LeBoit in 1998, 20 who reported that a psoriasiform lichenoid pattern, basilar epidermotropism, loss of papillary dermal elastic fibers, basement membrane thickening, and epidermal atrophy favor LS, whereas Civatte bodies, wedge-shaped hypergranulosis, basal squamatization, and pointed rete ridges Named Cells and Bodies in Oral Pathology - Part I: A Ready Reckoner Shankar Gouda Patil 1, Roopa S Rao,2 Sanketh Sharath3 2 morphology of cell & structures.

Accurate histological diagnosis, although it can sometimes be difficult to establish, is essential for clinical management. Knowledge of the microanatomy of the skin is important to recognise the variable histological patterns of inflammatory skin diseases. This article reviews the Civatte body Civatte body A Civatte body (named after the French dermatologist Achille Civatte, 1877–1956) [35] is a damaged basal keratinocyte that has undergone apoptosis , and consist largely of keratin intermediate filaments, and are almost invariably covered with immunoglobulins , mainly IgM. Kamino bodies are commonly observed microscopically with the condition spitz nevi, a benign melanocytic nevus, a type of skin lesion, affecting the epidermis and dermis. See also.
